Gateway to the Virunga volcanoes
Kisoro sits in a bowl of volcanic peaks close to the borders of Rwanda and DR Congo. It is the base for gorilla trekking in Mgahinga, golden monkey tracking and climbing the Virunga volcanoes themselves.
The town's market, the Batwa cultural trail and the dramatic mountain scenery make it far more than a stopover — and Lake Mutanda, just outside town, may be the most photogenic lake in Uganda.
