National park
Kidepo Valley National Park
Uganda's remote, wild savannah
Location
North-eastern Uganda, Karamoja region
Size
About 1,442 km²
Kidepo is Uganda at its most rugged and least crowded — a vast valley of golden grass ringed by mountains, where you may drive for hours and meet more wildlife than vehicles. Ostriches roam the open plains, cheetahs hunt where no other Ugandan park allows, and the Narus Valley's waterholes draw elephants, lions and buffalo.
The park's remoteness is part of its magic, and the cultural encounters with the Karamojong and Ik communities are among the most genuine in East Africa.
