Entebbe
Lakeside calm on the shores of Lake Victoria
Entebbe sits on the shores of Lake Victoria, just south of Kampala, and is usually a traveller's first and last taste of Uganda. It rewards slow travel: botanical gardens full of monkeys and hornbills, boat trips to the equator, and some of the country's best sunsets.
The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre and the Mabamba Swamp — one of the most reliable places on earth to see a wild shoebill stork — are both within easy reach.
